Can you even count the amount of times that people have rolled their eyes over people saying “…but I need my beauty sleep!” Turns out, they might be right. According to a study, it’s been revealed that men aren’t supposed to be the ones sleeping in – women are. A group of 210 middle aged men and women were studied and it was found that the women suffered greater health issues from lack of sleep compared to men.
The study can be quoted to say that “We found that for women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of hostility, depressions, and anger. In contrast, these feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men.”
Deep sleep is required for the cortex (the part of the brain that’s responsible for thought memory, language, and so on) to disengage from your different senses and goes into a sort of recovery mode. That being said, the study goes on to say that women tend to multi-task. That, coupled with the fact that women’s brains are wired differently and are more complex, their requirement for sleep is greater than that of men. Long story short, women’s brains are more complicated and need more time to relax and recuperate through the night
